Curious what Miami fans think of trying to move to the B1G, especially now that Miami is an AAU school. We didn’t have any Miami or UNC fans the last time I posted an article on this topic. Would you prefer the SEC for geography/history or the B1G for academics/something new?

I did my last response fairly quickly, and didn’t notice you gave a choice between SEC or B1G. That’s a harder question. Ultimately I’d say B1G. The academics is a big part of that. But I also think the SEC would be a tougher climb to make Miami relevant in football again. Not to say B1G lacks talent (it definitely does not), but SEC is just another level.

How do you think a move to the B1G would effect Miami’s current rivalries? I assume FSU is considered your biggest rival considering they are in conference, but I don’t know where you rank UF or even other schools in the ACC. My biggest reason (other than money) for wanting to go to the SEC is so that Clemson can maintain its South Carolina matchup and maybe throw in Georgia to restart that rivalry. I assume FSU joins us in this scenario so we can continue to play the Bowden Bowl annually. GT and NC State would be fun to play as well, but maybe not every year like we do currently. I’ll be glad to get rid of Syracuse.

We don’t play UF too much anymore. Every few years, perhaps, as an out-of-conference. I think part of that is because of UF’s non-conference rivalry with FSU. They (perhaps rightfully) don’t want too many difficult non-conference games when they already have a tough conference to play in. If FSU goes to the SEC, maybe that’d help renew a Miami rivalry even if Miami doesn’t follow into that conference, too.

As for Miami and FSU, I’d like to believe that rivalry will follow us wherever we go. But I guess you never know.

And we don’t really have any other true rivalries in the conference. Our VT and UNC games are always exciting ones, but I don’t think I consider them “rivalries.”

SEC makes a lot of sense for Clemson. Adding UGA into the mix for them would be awesome!
