At this point the first contact we’d get is they’d raid the alien ship, find crazy tech that could cure most of the world’s diseases and end starvation…but small groups of people hoard it and get rich instead of advancing us 100 years to create a utopia
That or they’d use to tech to try and conquer other countries, inadvertently start another world war and nukes start flying in every direction
You ever watched any of the mirror universe episodes?
Because that’s basically what happens. Vulcans make first contact, humans shoot them in the face, loot their tech and use it to build an interstellar racist empire.
The intro alone is worth the price of admission.
This is the type of interesting thing that I apparently miss by diligently always skipping the Enterprise theme religiously every single time without fail.
Looks to me like someone’s due for a rewatch.

First Contact?
All galactic species have posted a ‘do not disturb the wildlife’ sign just outside our system and only allow visitors in on strict conditions to view us like some kind of zoo and for entertainment.

best case scenario is we’re one of those “gotta break the prime directive here because jesus fucking christ” scenarios
I’m just having trouble envisioning which species might have enough empathy to bother. Perhaps some help from our own past.

Another thought is that an alien species have affected us and just want to keep us stagnant for some reason … kind of like how we hold young cattle in restraint to raise controlled beef that will produce nice soft supple muscles - veal that is a delicacy to eat … maybe an alien race is just raising and controlling us to harvest a steady supply of dumb humans for some reason.
