8·3 days agoGot to hand it to them though, they’ve done a fantastic job of hastening European re-armament and ultimate independance from the US.

8·3 days agoI dunno all life today is an example of an unbroken lineage back to the begining of all life in existence (on earth), yes most branches wither and die but there’s also no such thing as a ‘new’ species, just the latest permutation or branch of one that was there before.

politics @lemmy.world•Iran says Strait of Hormuz will close again amid US blockadeEnglish
5·4 days agoI think the rough method of discouse is Trump rambling to himself alone in his office, occasionaly someone from whatever part of the government that still knows how to negotiate attempts to translate some of these ramblings and confer them to Iran before Trump changes his mind and just tweets something completely different.

1·6 days agoShadowrun actually had/has a lower real cost of living than we now do in real life.
According to the side-job and lifestyle rules you could work part time and afford to live solo in a small appartment (Probably on par with V or Davids home in Cyberpunk)

2·7 days ago3D artist here, generative AI models are great at making work that looks super impressive while being completely unuseable for most applications, I suspect this is what most tech workers find too.

Technology@lemmy.world•Is AI the greatest art heist in history?English
1·8 days agoI think we’re past profitable mattering at this point, even if the next model of chatGPT causes your eyes to bleed after prolonged use they’ll make it profitable by forcing its use anywhere and everywhere no matter how inappropriate it is for any given application.
We’re already there with some products like cars and phones where we just get told what to want and ignored if we disagree.

91·10 days agoOption 1 is hope for a new beginning too depending on certain theories.
There’s a lot of fancy math involved that I don’t understand but the upshot is that mathematically a completely barren uniform universe and an infinitely dense point are technically identical and theoretically one could spontaniously become the other.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do people get progressively less happy as they age?English
151·10 days agoPeople born in the late 90s onward sure do, we get to see every expected milestone dissapear under a pile of enshitification and vanishing wages/opportunities as people who increasingly seem like disney villains do their best to make everything even worse.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Fox News doc says not enough ’15 to 19′ year-olds are having kids: ‘The fertility is down’English
7·11 days agoMost of the developed world has the same societal problems that boil down to, no one has the money, time or energy to have kids.
Or you just create a new timeline each time so you can’t actually mess up your original timeline.

World News@lemmy.world•US intelligence says Chinese satellite imagery of bases is helping IranEnglish
2·16 days agoI’d say they’re hemorrhaging hard power too, the US strategy was always to immediately establish air dominance and then win from there, but it turns out that step 1 kinda just doesn’t work against people armed with more than old toyotas and tents. I’d still bet on the US to win if they just wanted to flatten some place but I’ve got serious questions on their ability to achieve a non-phyric victory against any near-peer after this display.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When if ever did "Throw Money at The Problem:" actually work? Instead of being about 75 percent useless?English
2·19 days agoMajor infastructure projects (in certain countries) tend to turn into infinitely deep money pits due to rampant mismangment and corruption that can swallow the entire budgets of smaller nations and still not get done. They tend to drag down the average.

32·21 days agoI think even with solar, wind, tidal and perfect grid storage nuclear is still worth investing in, simply because its a useful technology to have in some space travel applications, in some cases even more useful than fusion power would theoretically be.
Everyone hates getting stuck because it turns out that one tech from half the tech-tree ago was mandatory for progression.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Water stress by country, measured as freshwater withdrawals relative to renewable water resources (2022)English2·21 days agoThe UK has very fucked up land management, virtually all the capacity of the land to hold onto water has been destroyed in favour of dumping it into the sea as quickly as possible, the result is a country thats prone to both floods and droughts.

Also iirc Israel just kept shooting? And then Trump got mad than iran continued shooting back because it ‘violated’ the imaginary ceasefire that apprently involved them just sitting there and being shot without retaliating?
