Speaking from a US cultural standpoint, most people don’t do this though. Because of this if someone asks “how are you doing?,” there is a script that runs in my brain that just translates it to mean “Hello.”
There’s nothing more soul crushing than showing emotional vulnerability and then promptly being told you’re a burden and have misinterpreted abstract social signals. Always better to just…not 🤷
The only reason the Fextralife wiki exists is because they use it to inflate their twitch channel viewercounts and channel metrics for sponsors with the embedded stream on every page(Unless twitch finally fixed this loophole). The entire business model of Fextralife is literally farming ad revenue so this doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Yes, people genuinely believe that the social credit exists.
It’s a fictional character from Battlestar Galactica.
That’s the only one I’m aware of too. Just commenting to put a link to the community.
If you’re using whole eggs, generally yes unless you have a use for them. You can store just the yolks for a short period in the fridge if you want. They also sell cartons of just egg whites in a lot of grocery stores, at least in the US.

You’re conflating Patriarchal gender roles with Stoicism. They are not the same thing and Stoicism is not what OP is asking about.
Holy crap, I didn’t realize that site still existed. I’ve since lost touch, but I actually met some cool people from around the world that I was friends with for years through that site when I was a teenager 20 years ago.
Thank you for all the work you’ve put into creating and keeping this place the best run and maintained general-purpose Lemmy instance. Take care of yourself first and foremost and hopefully we’ll see you around.
Good luck stepping into the new role EllaSpriggins!
I think that’s a part of it. They’re also usually the ones who are likely to end up being longer-term residents so they’re more invested.
I don’t mind chatting, but usually when a I’m outside my apartment I’m in the process of doing something. Personally I hate getting trapped in small talk when I’m just trying to spend 60 seconds to take my trash out or walk to my car.
Nope. Neighbors in apartments change far too frequently for various reasons - life changes, rent hikes, property issues, etc. It very rarely seems worth the time to invest in a potential acquaintanceship. The only people that ever seem to be eager to be friends in my experiences end up being the elderly and the younger folks anyway.
It also makes it far more awkward when you have to eventually have a neighborly conversation and ask them to not leave their trash in the hallway or keep their volume down or something else minor.
If you don’t have the requisite cooking skills and knowledge then you really won’t be able determine when your LLM hallucinates bad instructions, which it absolutely will. This is true even without the involvement of an LLM because a lot of blog and recipe sites cut corners to make recipes look shorter and easier than they actually are and you need to know how to navigate that.
A great deal of cooking skills just comes in understanding your ingredients and how they chemically change as they cook. There is no substitute for knowledge and experience, especially when poor preparation can be damaging to your health in cases. Unfortunately, yes, “Git gud” is the answer because the LLM isn’t going to cook the food for you.
Just chiming in to say I’ve been having the same issue. Pages beyond the first (so maybe about 10 posts or so at a time) will not load and get stuck with a red “pages failed loading” error at the bottom of the screen in Jerboa. This behavior started over the weekend. All other navigation seems fine, I can go to a community and sort by any of filters but only the first page of posts will be visible. I’ve got about a half dozen different accounts on different instances and the issue only happens when logged into this instance at this time.
Edit: Unlike OP I never stopped having the issue. It’s still present post maintenance and upgrade.
The search in Jerboa is…limited. It searches on community name(not display name) and it will only show about a dozen of the largest communities as results and nothing more. You essentially need to already know what you’re looking for to find a great deal of value from it.
You really have to search for communities externally if you’re looking for something that isn’t a niche interest. There’s a small handful of directory sites that help with this, but I can’t for the life of me remember them at the moment if someone can help me out 😅
Edit: Mentaledge beat me too it. Lemmyverse.net is the largest of them.
It doesn’t cause panic, but I don’t back up my photos on my Google drive because I don’t want to and I don’t need to. So every time it forces me to accidentally turn it on, the sooner I stop it the fewer pictures I need to individually delete from my drive. It’s a massive hassle that shouldn’t happen.
Can they also stop harassing me to turn it on? The placement of the accept button is idiotic too because it’s directly over where the normal nav options are. I accidentally turn it on all the time, need to frantically stop the backup, and then log into the desktop site to delete the photos it grabbed. It’s extremely annoying.
These women are getting a pizza delivered.
