Seconded. It’s much more powerful than what I use it for, but it works a treat. We just have a VM for it running and every few months or so renew the image we use. Really this was the solution to waiting for windows updates lol. The USB part wasn’t so bad, but having to update through windows update from scratch every time took ages…

science@lemmy.world•Why incels take the “Blackpill”—and why we should careEnglish
41·1 year agoI feel like that’s more a problem of whatever specific gyms you are going to. Ones I go to have usually have signs up saying no cameras allowing people to just focus on their own workout. Regardless, the point is that if you want to help people overcome their “the world is against me, no woman wants me” mind set of an incel, there should be more spaces that let people interact with others outside of online algorithm controlled or bot account flooded social media platforms. Places to meet and converse with real people of any gender. All of a sudden they will probably realise that most people are actually nice. Most people don’t generally go around trying to make people feel shit or uncomfortable.

273·1 year agoThese third spaces don’t have to be exclusively young men lol. In fact it might be better if they aren’t given the specific topic of people we are talking about in this thread. In general an increase in community locations is a good thing, but it seemed especially so for people in the intel rabbit hole. Somewhere casual they can come out of their shells and meet people in the real world!

science@lemmy.world•Why incels take the “Blackpill”—and why we should careEnglish
722·1 year agoYeah and the reason young men are finding it hard to have real life friends and end up on uncle forums is because we lost most of our “third spaces” thanks to them not making money and shutting down or being underfunded or closed if they were publicly owned.
Ontop of this the constant algorithms that push specific topics to people over and over due to it keeping them on the platform and therefore generates income.
It does feel like 75% of this problem could be fixed by stopping corporate greed and fixing our local communities as whole.

4·1 year agoAgreed, meant they were backing people up for double the time… However George’s move made me realise perhaps we just need a shortcut, like a joker lap from rally cross but it’s actually quicker not longer, and they are limited to use it once a each only or something.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Game price isn't the problem, wages areEnglish
631·1 year agoAre the game developers and artists wages now being increased by the same percentage though? You are correct overall, especially in places like the UK where wages have been stagnant since like 2008 it feels like. But letting a company off the hook for raises “due to inflation” if they themselves are not raising their workers salaries to meet that inflation is bullshit.

Linux@lemmy.ml•How to Switch Primary GPU to NVIDIA on Wayland for KDE Plasma and GNOME - 9to5Linux
1·1 year agoWell this seemed like potentially a very convenient fix to a problem I was having but turns out the game I’m trying to play can’t be forced into using the gpu for some reason…. Cool utility though, shame it’s really needed at the same time!
So I actually spent a few seconds thinking about it and I think the main problem would come down to moderation? Ultimately if someone who wrote a paper wanted to distribute it they could do so using existing sites like pastebin or GitHub. The concern with running one myself would be “how do I know this doesn’t contain child abuse images or something”.
How is this a thing? How has nobody just started hosting their own papers? What does it need except a fairly basic website and some storage for the papers themselves? Forgive the ignorance, I’m an IT guy not a scientist…

7·1 year agoAssuming the scale is the same or similar to the GBA SP back in the day, this looks horrendously un-ergogenomic…even as a kid the location of the buttons was sometimes awkward to hold for longer sessions, also the lower down place of those thumb sticks would make it 10 times worse!

I guess for most people it would be. Certainly I’d be like “sorry dad but I can buy a house an have my future be much more secure” if my kid did the same I’d like to think I’d understand as well…but this is for normal people. To these very well known and well off comedians is 375k that much? It’s like the equivalent of me getting like 5k which I’m not sure I would betray my morals for. Having said that nobody’s offering me 5k to!
