I think this overlooks how most MAGAs are rural… and when you live rural you already rely on your neighbors. Most of which are also white and the exceptions are ““one of the good ones.”” It’s why they can demonize entire demographics and still feeling like a good person since they’re good neighbors.
They’re not going to stop blaming ‘the others’ for hardships… They’re just going increase complaints about ‘the government’ and how much they pay in taxes.
I grew up in Amish country/farmland and it’s painful to see how stagnant my family has been over the years.
Has Jellyfin improved its subtitle fetching? It’s been awhile since using Jellyfin. I stayed with Plex because downloading subtitles on the fly wasn’t available in Jellyfin, and no extensions for it either.
JS has bid 26 times now without missing a beat. It’s up to $2,345. That’s insane… and with 8 days left! Like bruhh what?? I refuse to believe they genuinely want to purchase it vs just driving up the price.
Everyone should agree with them but not everyone does.
What is it you think the “not agreeing” people want?
Yep… the “best” candidate is not the same as being the most “talented.” Maybe they’re a bad fit because they’re an asshole, or because they’d want a team structure that’s incompatible with the current one.
It all adds to the complexity and subjectivity recruitment inheritly has.
Personally, I don’t have the energy to go to such lengths. My “good enough” has been using AdGaud Home as a network-wide DNS blocker and connect my smart TV to it. It’s been great so far.
Plus, I get the bonus of seeing how much gets blocked.
Look, everyone agrees the best candidate should be the one that’s hired.
Unfortunately, there’s no objective truth in how to rank candidates - minus anything obvious. Humans make the choices and humans are prone to bias. Consciously or not, people are going to favor candidates that meet the expected stereotypes for said positions.
There are plenty of studies out there documenting it. For example, resume response rates can vary drastically based solely on the name of the applicant. (The same resume sent to various companies with changes to the applicant’s name. Masculine names, feminine names, “white” names, “black” names, etc).
It does bother me if people are hired because of the colour of their skin or because of their gender and not because they were the best candidate.
Statements like these are easy to cling onto and rally a false narrative. They’re something ““everyone”” should agree on at a first glance. They miss the underlying issues and the driving force behind various movements.
Not disagreeing, but at some point this won’t be enough. Assuming companies aren’t already, “offline” devices will get shipped with the ability to utilize unsecured networks and/or other devices. Better hope any neighbors are privacy conscious too.*
(they’re not)
This might depend on the version the OS is. I have an LG that’s been great for years, then it got a ““fresh new look”” that featured a giant banner for “recommendations.”
I had auto-updates off, too. Thankfully, they still had an option to revert to the previous menu - but who knows how long that’d stay an option? It pissed me off enough to finally setup AdGaurd Home on my home server.
Fun Fact: It’s increased my phone’s battery life by ~48 hours (excluding the rare occasion where its being actively used all day).
This typically works, but one time the AI said “Sorry, we’re unable to help you. Good bye” and hung up the phone.
Mind you, this was after 10 minutes of going in nonsensical loops of their options… I have never felt so baffled and enraged at the same time.
Oh god, yes this too. All the sponsored location spam drives me crazy. I love when I zoom in to a location and it doesn’t mark ANY of the shops besides STARBUCKStm
It has definitely been getting worse over years, but I specifically meant the last couple of weeks. I could still find what I needed between all the garbage… now I can’t even find it after adjusting the search multiple times.
If you can’t do better, then at least add some cute cat pictures in it. At least then I’ll feel a crumb of joy with every wasted effort!
Unfortunately, I’m usually searching software development issues and half the results are a decade old (and are no longer relevant for the language anymore). Assuming “after:xx” works too this night help, thank you!
You honestly though the most used search engine has been abandoned by everyone? Maybe share what you’re using instead of just being pretentious?
Aside from DDG, these are all new to me. I’ll take a look this week, thank you.
I’ve been swapping around search engines too, but they still seem bad. I always end up back at Google just because I know how to manipulate the search terms better.
I’ve used Kagi’s free trial. I’d turn to it when nothing else was helping and it did really well, but recently it hasn’t been helping either. It’s probably still fine for most things, but I’m often searching niche developer/programming things that are too burried under SEO/AI spam to find anymore.
Ooo I haven’t heard of this, thank you! The amount of garbage they’ve added is absurd.
Honestly, thank you for posting the details and results. Regardless of anyone’s opinions, it’s a fascinating thought experiment.
