4·15 days agoAlgorithms are addictive by design. I don’t think that non-algorithmic social media is generally addictive. Forums existed since the start of the internet and they were never an issue. They are even making a comeback now that people are getting tired of algorithms telling them what to see and what to think.

After reading the issue chain, this is basically a legal ransomware. Messages on self-hosted instances are held hostage without any prior warning.
I have been warning about Mattermost for years now. They were never open source, but instead open core and that deliberate choice is clearly showcased here.
