Through this whole thing, I’ve felt like people claiming that AI is super-intelligent are just telling on themselves. We may have made something that is great at parroting the perfect statistical average person. That also means it sounds smarter than half of everyone.

The problem we ran into the last few times the bible was translated was who gets to do the translation. There’s already evidence of tampering here and there.

That’s me. I would absolutely figure out a way to misplace this. In fact, I’m likely to trip over it later.

There is a thread right now on Hacker News about the use of MCPs with a robust discussion on the matter.

The linked article there makes a salient argument against it, but the discussion cuts the other way. Basically, having an MCP between the agent/AI and Gmail could have been structured in a manner to prevent these kinds of hijinks. Nevermind that it keeps credentials out of the hands of the agent, making it harder to go rogue.

So, a lot of this would be dissonance in the head of a logical and rational person. Sadly, this is all rationalized away with the help of a few devices:

• Just-Universe Fallacy
• Denial
• Dissociation
• Total lack of empty for unknown/outside groups

How do we combat this? Outside of one-on-one conversations to help make “doesn’t happen here” things relevant to the individual, I’m not sure.
