  • I’d rather some key people get impeached than files. Primarily because I think precisely nothing will happen if they come out.

Oh there’ll be a lot of outrage, of memes, of articles and whatever but nothing much will really happen if it wasn’t happening already. The files are just information after all, and we haven’t done much with the info we have.

It’ll just be like the Panama papers all over again.

  • Yes I’m aware the design of the fediverse makes things public. You’ve made that point.

I think hiding your profile is worth the moderation trouble. Users report individual posts, they’re very rarely going through a person’s profile.

Mods banning based on activity in other places also leads to the opposite problem. Some subreddits do it and basically everyone hates it.

  • I’m going to be honest, I have no idea how open source works. I can’t imagine maintaining anything more than a tiny library that I can ignore six days of the week.

Also: open source relies on good jobs. You can only do it if you have a well paid low stress job with good hours. Those have been in short supply recently.

I think the free time covid gave, followed by the free time the layoffs gave, and AI have been patching / hiding the fact that the core model of open source is completely unsustainable in its current state.
