I think this is the best approach. I’ve created a short alias for my trash tool and also aliased rm to do nothing except print a warning. This way you train yourself to avoid using it. And if I really need it for some reason I can just type \rm.

If you want to train yourself even more effectively you can also alias rm to run sl instead :)

I’ve spent so much money on nail polish since I started transitioning. It’s more of a macro transaction really.

Is there evidence that that’s actually what happens and not just e.g. spontaneous remission? But even if it’s true, if a drug works as well as placebo then we usually conclude that it doesn’t work.

Also, people who know that someone else is praying for them actually have worse outcomes according to one of the most comprehensive studies ever done on this.

Concerta and Ritalin are both methylphenidate medications. The “regular” Ritalin is instant release and Concerta is extended release. Because these two are the most well-known, “Ritalin” is often used as a synonym for “instant release methylphenidate” and “Concerta” for “extended release methylphenidate”. As far as I can tell, descriptions like “long acting” (LA) and “extended release” (ER/XR) don’t have clear definitions and are often used interchangeably.

So unless you’re specifically talking about the brand name or want to get extra technical with potential differences in the formulation, the person you replied to is correct. Concerta and Ritalin LA are both extended release methylphenidate.

It’s absolutely not the same thing. I used to play a lot as a kid (still do) and I have no problem with today’s kids doing the same. But I want them to be able to enjoy games without constantly being manipulated into spending as much money as possible.

And it’s not just about kids either, I think these predatory tactics affect adults too.

It’s not a moral panic, the problem is capitalism.

They’re not doing this because they’re stupid. By painting everyone else as an extremist they’re normalising their own extreme ideology. What a marxist actually is doesn’t matter to them at all.

And just to be clear, I’m not saying they aren’t stupid.

I feel like play time per money spent mattered when most people were buying offline games at full price but to me it hasn’t been relevant for a long time. I might pay full price for a game that is incredible for 5-10 hours but a game that is mediocre for 100 hours I wouldn’t even play for free.

I don’t think they’re ignorant, they’d just rather support the fascists than the progressives.

I also gave up after reading AFFC about a decade ago, with the intention of picking the series back up once the next book had released.

But at this point he’d have to finish the entire series before I’d even consider going back. And I doubt he’ll ever do that. I think eventually they’ll just get someone else to finish it.
