5·19 days agoCan someone tell me what is the point of a graphing calculator? And before you ask yes I have studied engineering and we were never asked to buy one, we just used Matlab. I am genuinely curious I’ve never used one.

Android@lemdro.id•Dumber Mini - A Nokia-style phone with WhatsApp and Maps! (LineageOS 21-based ROM - Android 14)English
6·26 days agoThis kind of “dumb” phones are not typically marketed to privacy and security cautious people like us. They are trying to mostly reach regular people that want to “detox” from social media but at the same time also have a usable device. Like it or not especially in Europe everyone uses WhatsApp to communicate, so it is something that most regular people consider necessary.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Solid-state nuclear battery claims 100-year power for ultra-low energy devicesEnglish
20·1 month agoThe device operates within a voltage range of 1.0 V to 20.0 V and a nominal current between 7.5 nA and 33 nA, all within a compact 20 mm by 20 mm by 12 mm form factor.
Yeah, can’t even power an ESP32. Wake me up when this thing can do between 7.5 mA and 33 mA, not nA.

homeassistant@lemmy.world•What's the best way to detect when I'm taking a shower?English
2·2 months agoI would go for a simple humidity sensor. You just need to do a bit of data collection first to get a baseline of “what taking a shower usually looks like” and then based on that create the automation.
The only problem with that is that depending on how accurate you want it to be, you may have to wait a while to take a few measurements until it triggers the automation.
For something like mood lights I would just use a ZigBee switch if I’m being honest though.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Privacy centric devices stateside for low cost?
8·2 months agoThe answer is to get a used Pixel. With a bit of looking around you may be able to find some pretty good deals. The Pixel 8a is the sweetspot is my opinion. OEM minimum support until May 2031 and old enough to find at a very good price. But not that old for its battery to very likely be busted.
Same here, Debian since Squeeze. A couple of years ago I just decided to go a step further and go with Kicksecure. Which is basically just hardened Debian.

I will make my own PCBs with Ferric Chloride and hookers!
