GET READY FOR JULY 1st
Update: We are now past 140,000 users. Growth is still accelerating.
When I checked yesterday it was 91,000 users, it’s now 109,000 and counting up fast!
100,000 🎉
Stats can be found here: https://the-federation.info/platform/73 - this site has been hugged to death for the moment.

Wow! And it was around 11000 last weekend?! This is great!
I was going to ask what the number used to be! I am new as of last week, and even from when I started, it’s insane to see posts with hundreds of upvotes. Crazy upswing in such a short amount of time. I wonder how long time Lemmy users feel about all this.
Not exactly a long time lemmy user, but a long time lurker of reddit clones since before lemmy existed, and I’ve definitely spent time on lemmy before it was cool – it is absolutely amazing to see this platform take off. Lemmy was the first reddit clone where I thought to myself “they figured it out!!”
No other project was seriously talking about federation, for reasons which escape me to this day. What are the alternatives? We all go back to running disconnected, individual forums? We all go to some other enormous site which is guaranteed to have the same fate as reddit? How was this complicated conceptually? Lemmy got the right answer and is implementing it well enough that it’s actually got the potential to gain traction.
You would not want to try to replace reddit with the tools that came before lemmy.
Remember voat? Lol
It was a shiny clean looking old reddit with great intentions and probably closer to my vision of speech but hot damn it was either people or campaigns because it got super racist real quick. Some have mentioned though that a lot didn’t seem genuine.
I stayed away from that one. But I remember lol.
Not surprising seeing the crap that’s going on with reddit. I came over from it too this week.
