minus-square@Dasus@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglish33•6 months ago The Battle of Blair Mountain was the largest labor uprising in United States history And I had never heard of it. Although I’m not American.
minus-squareTWeaKlinkfedilinkEnglish53•6 months agoIt’s crazy, basically the 2nd American civil war. Miners storming Pinkerton machine gun nests is how the US got down to a 40 hour work week.

minus-square@PugJesus@lemmy.worldOPMlinkfedilinkEnglish14•6 months agoLived in a liberal state, but when I was in high school, they attributed it to the Wobblies and left it at that.

minus-square@PugJesus@lemmy.worldOPMlinkfedilinkEnglish12•6 months agoI mean, the Wobblies were a big part of the labor movement which achieved the 40-hour workweek. It’s just a mixture of “Glossing over” and “Complex background reduced to the most prominent actor regardless of whether it’s the right one”
minus-square@SatyrSack@lemmy.onelinkfedilinkEnglish9•6 months agoI think they mean that the “Wobblies” and the “Pinkertons” just sound like a bunch of cartoon characters or something.
