Summary

Elon Musk accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of “feeding off the dead bodies of soldiers” and falsely claimed he is “despised” by Ukrainians, echoing Donald Trump’s rhetoric.

Musk also threatened changes to X’s Community Notes after fact-checkers refuted his claims. Trump and Musk’s remarks align with Russian propaganda, prompting European leaders to reaffirm support for Ukraine.

Observers rejected claims that Ukraine is a dictatorship, emphasizing that its wartime election suspension is both legal and justified, similar to the UK’s approach during World War II.

Critics argue Musk’s stance undermines free speech and factual discourse while aiding Kremlin narratives against Ukraine.

Have you found an alternative where I can follow most public personalities that I currently follow on X?

Edit 4 days later: I came across https://openportability.org/ and used it to gather my following list on X and follow them on Bluesky and Mastodon. 3 people found on Bluesky and 0 on Mastodon…

Exactly. Bluesky is not ideal by any means, and could turn into a another “X” down the line, but it’s the best alternative to avoid it right now. It’s also pretty popular, with some posts from famous people raking in as much engagement as Edgelord Musk on X.

There’s perfect, and then there’s “Sure I’m supporting a genocidal, Nazi lunatic destroying global democracy, but like… how else will I hear about what public personalities had for lunch?”.

Not sure the bar could be any lower.

The person I was discussing with stated he’s not sure the car could be any lower, to which I reply it can be.

Eating animals contributes to the killing of billions of land animals and tens of billions of fish on a yearly basis. Most of them are raised in terrible conditions in factory farms.

You don’t support them ideologically, but you are supporting one by giving ad viewership and personal data revenue to Elon Musk. Supporting a Nazi doesn’t just mean you post good things about them online, and talk good about them in person. You support them monetarily by using their platform.

First of all it remains to be seen whether Elon Musk is a Nazi. How many people have been sent to concentration camps recently?

Furthermore, you are talking about indirect support. I’m pretty sure you also indirectly support monetarily services and countries you disagree ideologically with.

Thank you. I asked in good faith, I am exploring Mastodon and looking for the accounts I follow on X but a lot are missing unfortunately.

Getting people to switch is honestly a little complicated. People haven’t switched to Mastodon because the accounts they follow aren’t on Mastodon, but the accounts aren’t on Mastodon because the people who follow them aren’t there.

If you want to help, it might be beneficial to reach out to the accounts you follow and tell them you’d like to see them on Mastodon too.

What public figure are you following on exclusively Twitter that is important enough to stay there?

About 80 journalists, politicians and political analysts.

As suggested by a couple helpful people here I will check if they have blue sky accounts and will encourage them to setup a Mastodon account.

Out of curiosity, if Kanye West opens a book club for reading Mein Kampf, would you join it to keep up to date with unfiltered political analysis by a piece of shit? If the answer is no, maybe you should reconsider your stance on X.

I see where the cognitive dissonance kicks in. You do not want to be mistaken for a nazi sympathizer, but refuse to distance yourself from them on some basis of believed plausible deniability. Is it perhaps because you are indeed sympathetic to some of their fascist talking points?

You might have to miss out for a bit, but once they start noticing a significant drop they’ll move somewhere else. People with “public personalities” want to be seen and heard, they’ll go where people can see and hear them.

I’m willing to miss out on a few of them if I can find most of them somewhere else.
