I used to be in your situation for 30 years, but things got bad after the pandemic. I also felt a definite disturbance in the force, the moment i turned 50.
A friend of mine works as a chef in a big restaurant that serves mainly tourists that are often drunk, rude and sometimes aggressive. He works in a hot, loud and greasy athmosphere, has to stand all day, work on weekends, public holidays, often until late in the evening. I work in a clean and comfortable office or even from home, am pretty flexible with my working hours, have more vacation days and still make significantly more money than him. And he’s already getting way above minimum wage. There are so many people in Germany who aren’t even close to what he makes and who work under conditions even worse than that, like seasonal workers for fruit picking, construction workers, care workers etc.
I think also IT workers should stand up for themselves and demand improvements where things are going in a wrong direction. Still I’d say us IT folks (with probably very few exceptions) shouldn’t be the ones complaining in the front row.
