It’s ok. I’m glad it’s a thing that exists and hope it will get better with time but as it is now it’s very bare bones. I don’t remember how long it took to get my email I know I signed up a while back though when I first saw signups available. Even if it’s not that great now I think FOSS alternatives to big apps and software are always a good thing.

Is there an in app video editor? What is the policy on using music in videos for a FOSS platform like this?

I wonder if Capcut will be banned along with Tiktok.

The rules for using copyrighted content are the same on FOSS platforms as for the big players, legally speaking. The difference is the FOSS platforms simply don’t have the same enforcement mechanisms in place, so they won’t give you warnings directly and automatically. If a rights-holder comes across something that uses their content, however, they can still come after you under the law using things like the DMCA.

Yea, I was aware of the legality. But good to know. I was using AI music in my videos that gives me a license to use them. No one would give a strike regardless. I never monetized anyway. Just didn’t want to have silent videos.

I’ve heard there’s human made music that you can use for free with attribution in things like this, but I’ve never looked into it.

    TikTok without the government spyware.

There’s a lemmy community posting weblinks as well so you don’t need the app.

It’s fine, I wish there was more original content, but it’s fine.

I have used it a bit, but I don’t find this form of consuming content appealing.

    App still needs much polishing.

I used to hate shortform when Tiktok came out. I was like how TF can those short videos be interesting? Then I tried it and got addicted. Honestl, I don’t have a preference. I use all social media platforms. Centralized or decentralized. Converting slowly to the Fediverse, I am patiently waiting for certain functionalities on Lemmy and other platforms to mimic the bigger ones. Atleast, so I can see all forms of content without clicking on a link every time. Tiktok does get boring after seeing BS from scrolling so far. I was more interested in sharing content than following. Feedback and the like.

It’s an interesting start. But still has a very long way to go feature wise. I’m also unsure of how updates are supposed to work as it gets worked on.

I am. Seems nice and cool but not many people are there yet, plus the app has a lot of way to go. But I believe it can accomplish something interesting

I like it. Right now it seems like a mix of mildly interesting with reposts from other places. I like that it’s less addicting/compelling than apps with spying and a for you algorithm, but we’ll see if it can survive without the insane growth of more popular products.

It took me a few weeks to get the invite email iirc
