Could it be recommended that users include location in their post title then?

A lot of regional news sites don’t make clear where the news is happening in their headlines, or even articles, because they’re a regional site that serve a region. Those sites then are even more unclear where theyre talking about when they use a generic nickname like “Tristate” or “Windy City” or whatever to name their news source.

Out of curiosity, why? Would it be better as a not required, but encouraged, flair?

Its a bit weird you’re stalking me over to this conversation, when the core of Beehaw is to Bee kind.

For context: Powderhorn is a mod on the US News Beehaw Community. Powderhorn implemented a rule the other day banning political conversation on US News.

When I asked for clarification, I was met with an attitude of response that was anything but kind.

Realizing that maybe US News was not a good source of political news, due to the apparent ban, I went to Politics and made a suggestion that might make the community better suited for me, and presumably others (as validated by up votes).

I was informed of the reason why it might not be allowable while within the confines of the Beehaw mentality. I truly thought that the lack of rules more so applied to rules along the lines of “no calling for violence” may not be the best, because it can allow for Nazis to gain a voice by silencing the people who say that Nazis should be punched. I’m sure there may be better examples here.

When I realized that the lack rules were more overreaching to even the more mundane styles of rule that can’t be used to silence speech - such as my suggestion (at least as far as I can tell) - I pivoted my suggestion to be something that is more of an opt-in best practices.

The real irony is that the mod of another Beehaw community is making rules, being unkind to people who ask for clarification, and then stalk them to other communities in a bid to shame them for asking questions. If your behaviors are consistent with the other moderators and admins of this otherwise wonderful community, then yes, I do question whether this is the right community for me.

It’s a very broad community and would be nice to have some level of regionalization.

I just deleted and perma banned that kinda thing. Never heard any complaints.

I think one of the first ways is to show up. Like if a place is hosting a drag show, recognize that they’ve lost customers, so now you need to show up for the drag shows AND during regular hours.

If its somewhere you want to be a third space, then be friendly. Engage in conversation. If you’ve been going for a while, welcome new people to the space.

Third spaces don’t have to be businesses, they can be parks, libraries, and the likes. Those are a bit easier to start your community in. Make a post on a local Facebook page, “I’m going to be at this park doing this. Every Sunday at 1PM, join me.” Then show up. The first event will likely only have 2 or 3 people show up. That’s normal. Keep it up, be consistent, and don’t get down when no one shows up, do it again. People will come when they realize they’ve missed out. Make sure people know they missed out, take pictures, make it look busy.

Lastly, I think non-profits, like animal shelters, political organizations, etc. need to be opening reasons for people to visit them. Animal shelters, I think should open pet stores or have a space for dog training - so that local dog owners can meet other dog owners and raise their dogs better. Political parties should have bars/coffee shops so that people have a social third space to be, talk, and advance their party.

We’ve lost organizational power in this country because the pedophile class has been destroying even slightly liberal third spaces. Christian coffee shops talks politics everyday, no one bats an eye. But god forbid a business support a queer person, then everyone will boycott that business because theyre doing politics.

Find your local third spaces that kinda support you, and build a community of spenders and force the third space to support you more.

You’re right that grassroots is the answer. But voting is still part of the solution.

We’re needing broad change, everywhere. Don’t want Flock in your neighborhood? City council. Don’t want a data center in your neighborhood? City council.

City council is a body of what 7 people? That can immediately impact your daily life. If your town is banning Flock, and data centers, and doing a good job, then your neighboring towns will too.

And it really doesn’t take that many people to sway the outcome of a city council election.

But here’s where it gets scary: the pedophile elite has been destroying liberal leaning 3rd spaces for the past 10 or more years, while propping up right wing third spaces. Every single Christian coffee shop is a breeding ground for Nazism. The challenge in getting a city council that works for you, is creating a community that works for you.

And every single person that goes to the Christian coffee shop will stop supporting the local business that supports the queer community, “because they don’t do politics.”

Vote from the ground up. Promote local leaders. And while you’re voting for them, vote in a way that will at least delay fascism till your local leader has the experience to compete with the shitheads like Schumer.
