It’s not quite the same, but I know someone who acquired Italian citizenship because their grandparents were Italian/had Italian citizenship. They don’t even speak Italian.

At that point you count on either extended family support (or both sets of grandparents), older kids to take care of the younger siblings or for kids to fend for themselves. One kid is a lot if you don’t have family support, let alone 2 or more. Definitely to each their own, but I could never (especially as the person in the relationship who would be popping those kids out).

I had a classmate who was the youngest of 10. Always smelled bad, but otherwise an okay kid. I think the family was poor. Not surprising, having had to feed 12 people. I wonder how many of them have had kids of their own by now and if any chose to have many or none at all.

I don’t know how anyone can have kids in good conscience in this day and age. Even us Millennials are going to get affected badly, let alone younger gens who are in for a total ecological collapse.

As a Slav, my first association with the word pie is either fruit or cheese. Now I’m wondering which countries would first think of meat.

My father would beg to differ. Some of the things I’ve heard: “who’s going to take care of you when you’re old”, “the undesirable immigrants with 5+ children will take over and ruin Europe”. He also told me I was being selfish when I was barely 18 for stating I didn’t want to have children because carrying a child for 9 months and childbirth terrify me. That shit still terrifies me to this day, on top of all the other reasons why I still don’t want to have children.

Also, according to him the feelings a parent has for their child are “unexplainable”. That must be why my mom and and his mom were more a part of my childhood than he was!

I can tell you there are some who believe he is the Antichrist. At least that’s what I heard an acquaintance of mine say, and their church/ community believes the same. However, this isn’t in the US, which is kind of even more WTF to me, lol.
