9·6 hours agoI run NoScript. I only allow the javascript a site needs to function.
Most sites run well enough without it enabled, at least for viewing the content. Lemmy lets you read without JS enabled.
Google sites demand JS enabled to show you anything.

4·12 hours agoAt best, you can conclude that AI is no substitute at all for a lack of knowledge and working institutional processes.
I think AI can stand in for a lack of knowledge and working institutional processes. I think they’re a pretty good match.

233·13 hours agoAmericans deserve shit for a lot that’s going on right now, but the “they build houses out of cardboard and sticks” thing has never been exclusive to America. Also, there are plenty of drawbacks to building houses out of bricks and concrete.
My guess is it’s some very old building that has been added on to over hundreds of years, and everything made sense at each step of the process.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•I'm only an adult because I'm 40 but I feel like a child. Is anyone as lost as I feel now?English
5·13 hours agoYou have more than enough money to put a down payment on a mortgage for a house. Do it.
Don’t imagine that you should wait until you get married, get the house for yourself, because you’re right, it’s an important investment, and you’re just throwing your money away on rent. It’s surprising you haven’t bought a house yet.
Yes, you sound entitled. I was embarrassed that I had to borrow the down payment for my house from my dad, I never expected him to buy me a damn house, even though he could have just done so outright. I never felt “unloved”, quite the opposite. He raised me to stand on my own feet, and now that he’s gone, I’m grateful to him for doing so.
Having said all that, house prices are ridiculous right now, but are starting to crash in some markets, I’d wait no more than year to see what happens. Use that time to plan, instead of whining.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Those who ride a loud motorcycle in the city...English
91·2 days agoAn arroyo runs through my neighborhood (dry river bed). The kids ride their dirt bikes through it. I noticed a couple of years ago a few kids had electric versions. They’re very quiet, and the kids have just as much fun, it seems. I was happy to see that.
We still have the small-dicks who rev their cars, trucks, and bikes on their way to work every morning, though. Probably the same fools who set off near-professional grade fireworks every night for several days around the 4th of July. It used to be only on the 4th, but now it spreads across a week, plus New Years, and Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
Can’t wait for genetic modification that gives every male the same size dick.
I’m 60, American, and every shower in every home I’ve lived in had a handheld shower, since I was a kid.
It’s not an American thing. It’s just a certain people thing. I expect there are plenty of people in other countries who also don’t use them.
Beyond that, yeah, I agree, these things are the way to go:

I imagine they wore a swimsuit.

The power tools are faulty, and they’re being forced to use them. You’re assuming the people using the AI have the power to reject what the AI says. I’m not sure that’s true.
