The hard question becomes is it better for Linux (where anyone can contribute labor) to get the attention and donations or for commercial software where only nonhuman corporations benefit.

I have a friend that was using a gas generator to to periodically charge a battery in his tool shed. One time I asked him if he thought of putting up a solar panel on the roof. He said it wasn’t sunny enough to run all his tools off of solar. When I suggested he use the panel to charge his battery it was like I blew his mind. People still don’t think of solar like that for some reason.

It’s crazy that Star Trek V was once considered the worst Star Trek film but is now universally considered among critics to be the greatest movie of all time.

I know! I hate that I want them…

Those exterior shots really stuck with me as well. I can’t imagine growing up with blurry spaceship models viewed on a CRT tv to the giant, sweeping, detailed close up and wide shots we get in that opening shuttle scene. Now people laugh about how long it goes on for but I have to imagine for a lot of fans it was still not long enough!

I forgot about that scene! Must be in the director’s cut.

Firefox can edit existing pdf text?

I decided I’m going to go to one of these but can’t decide which!

What others are there? This is the first I know of!

If they’re going to skip a generation this would be the one.
The extent of the community depends on the context. I think most Americans when they hear the word would think of the people in their neighborhood or town. But it can mean any group of people, like a university, the LGBT community within a city, an internet fandom message board, etc. When a politician or elected official is saying “community” without prefacing specifically what community, they are probably referring to someone’s local town or neighborhoods.

Small instances are best. I just wish the big instances didn’t have most of the communities.

Gotta remember that a lot of Lemmy users are here because they’ve been banned from everywhere else. All the big Lemmy instances are highly moderation averse but I still report dipshits when I see them.
Argosy has to be vibe coded because while the UI appears very polished it is the most confusing and inconsistent piece of software I’ve ever used.

If you’re using Frigate with docker you could route the container through a gluetun container.

Getting a local security camera setup is kind of a pain but do able. Look into the self hosted software Frigate and go with their recommended brands.

Is pretty crazy. The B1M did a good video on this topic not too long ago.
In the US they use Chromebooks, not really any better but they do have Linux under the hood.
I haven’t watched any of the latest season yet but I get the impression that the writers are going out on a “do what we always wanted to do” note like in Enterprise S4.
