  • Yeah, I’ve had this type of interview lately. Not for software though. You install what probably might as well be a rootkit on your machine. They monitor your eyes through webcam. The slightest detection of your eyes looking away is an instant fail. That’s the gist of the process now.

Unfortunately for most people, they aren’t technical enough to know what they’re getting themselves into. They just follow the instructions.

Nobody is going to read the mountains of terms and conditions of all the services required to jump through along the application process. People are just trying to get a job to they can eat tonight.

  • People get offended whenever I’ve said that even random app developers are part of the problem. They can’t or won’t see that what we have arrived at is a Kafkesque world. It has been death by millions of papercuts. The collective rush to make an “app for everything” was in net effect building a global surveillance dragnet. It was inevitable the aggregate of data would turned into an authoritarian system of oppression.

All you wanted to do was make a 99 cents a sale for your basic phone app. You blindly stuffed it with copy-paste analytics APIs that voraciously collect data from users without transparency at all. You insisted that these random data brokers are 100% super honest. Just trust them, bro. You ridiculed anyone of trying to warn people how reckless this is. Good job, guys.

  • America is definitively passed their point of no return. I personally like many think that was a long time ago but there are still people out there who cannot internalize it. They’re in denial.

The world is trying to tell you guys this. Yes, you will have to put your body on the line. You will miss work. You will miss your bills. You’ve already lost so much. You will lose more. It’s a foregone conclusion. The question is what can you salvage at the point.

No, telling the rest of us to put our own bodies on the line will not change your situation. Ukrainians have no choice but to fight their oppressor. Gazans have no choice but to fight for their lives. America is no exception. You’ve slid into fascism. You have to fight for your freedom now.

You never were the exception. This mentality has been your undoing. The system isn’t fixing itself because of some higher innate quality of being American. You have proven this yourselves. You tried voting. It didn’t work. You tried protesting. It didn’t work. You tried your systems of checks and balances. They’ve all been torn the shreds.

You will fight like the rest of the world fights for their freedom. The idea of American peace, liberty, and justice for all was a fun fantasy while it lasted. Your own weapons of oppression are pointed at you. It’s time to wake up to reality now. This is the America that the rest of the world knows.

Maybe now Americans will understand those around world didn’t hate you because you were better. They hate you because of the very oppression you now face yourselves.

What a dumpster fire of a comment section this is. I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

Anyways. It all goes show how counter culture anti-establishmentarianism has been co-opted and usurped by conservatives. This is by design to destroy the field of play.

It wasn’t a gen-x thing. This generational thing is a new invention and a weapon used to divide us. They put us in a ring and threw that knife in the circle, leaving us to fight to the death.

I know you smartypants are already typing out the, “hurr hurr generational strife has always been a thing”. Just stop.

The era of counter culture had its last hurrah around the time of Occupy. After which the world memory-holed it and entered the era of whatever the fuck this is right now. People too young for that era don’t have the lived experience to comprehend a totally different frame of mind that isn’t the way it’s been now. It’s only when they experience a massive world shift that they might possibly conceptualize such a thing. People who do have lived experience of the before times have largely forgotten.

This whole comment section is self evident. You’re applying the lens of the current zeitgeist over a different one and it amounts to little more than incoherent ramblings.

  • I dislike it too. I’m not surprised at all. I’m not the brightest but the one thing I’ll lay claim to is having seen this train wreck the whole way. Our generations were raised to be hyper-individualist neoliberals. It’s everyone for themselves and we’re all worse off for it. We’re crabs in a bucket.

I didn’t have those words to conceptualize it as a kid but I saw it in the way we’ve been pit against each other since the beginning. It’s an unsustainable model. I’m not surprised the state of the world, especially the economy today.

What I don’t get is if everyone is so smart then why am I the only one that seems to be seeing it. Operative word being “seems”. I know a lot of other people see it too. As evidenced by whole posts like this.

But as a collective. We’re supposed to be the most educated and most open minded generations ever (in terms of breadth of knowledge, not political leaning). Yet we seem to be regressing to worse off states of being than ever. What the hell is even that about?

No, I don’t buy into blaming the “boomers”. They voted for what they wanted collectively. Collectively. Everyone accuses them of being selfish. If anything our generations are just as selfish. I personally think we’re more.

I don’t buy into blaming the top 0.01% either. They are a product of our collective obsession with money and materialism. I do blame much of the top two-digit percentages. I really don’t care if you’re a multi-milionaire or soon to be worlds first trillionaire. You’re all running the same race. Just with different scores. A butterfly flapping its wings could have just as well re-arranged those musical chairs to put anyone at the top.

The younger generations have the voting power now. But there’s always excuses designed to dodge the truth. Whatever we’re upset with about the world today is our own responsibility now. The truth is it sucks because too many of us are making it suck.

  • Being stuck inside a system does not make one a hypocrite to criticize it from within the system. Nor would one act of self immolation achieve anything but dying pointlessly in a fire. The prison guards will merely shovel your remains into a bucket. People like you will continue to goad other miserable prisoners into more pointless acts of self destruction for short term personal gratification.

We’re so deep into the technological surveillance state that people like you can’t even see that there was once a world outside these prison walls. You’ve accepted your fate. Maybe you we’re born into it. Maybe it’s been so long that you’ve forgotten it’s not normal to have all this forced upon us. In this world where surveillance state technology is required, smartphones are now integrated into critical needs of daily life. From government to financial institutions to workplace. You cannot live without it short of going inawoods Ted K style. At which point the prison guards are likely to descend upon your log cabin with the full military force of the state and corporate apparatus.

Ultimately these acts of immolation achieve nothing against the system itself but demonstrate the futility that we’re all stuck inside a prison. Seems like you thought you had a really clever retort there. You don’t. It’s you who are the fool.

  • one of the most human spaces left on the internet

Journalism once again demonstrating they are about 10-15 years behind on the times. Did they forget reddit completely broke back in 2016 when the_donald left the place in a permanent troll state.

I’m not going to read the article on account of time right now but I’m guessing it’s written as if reddit was invented yesterday and the prior 20 years of reddit history is didn’t happen.

It hasn’t been human since the early 2010s. Reddit was botted to death long before LLMs.

  • The bot accusation is a rhetorical cudgel in itself. What I mean is the bot swarms aren’t configured to speak of the before times.

Another thing is that it’s as if easily half the population of actual human posters have no knowledge of the time before. Could this be true on a technical basis. I know internet adoption grew fast more recently in some parts of the world. But how does the data line up? I haven’t looked.

So the real human components of the bot swarms so to speak are living a sort of allegory of the cave. They have no knowledge of the world wide web as a whole. They only know the slice of internet they started using in the bot swarm era. For them it seems to be nothing but a battle grounds of social, political, commercial warfare. Basically this is the big tech media platforms.

It doesn’t seem to compute for people much more than a shallow saying, “it’s all bots”. Yeah of course every says that all the time. But how is it all bots? How much if any do they know of outside the few apps on their phone. People don’t seem to have much knowledge of the before times very much. Or the internet outside of social media at all.

People hardly ever make old references. Nobody understands old colloquialisms. That seems like it could be a litmus test for someone who is a real human being.

  • Let’s cut through the bullshit. They’re trying to equate their six figure salary to 30k. They’re trying to leverage social media to validate their mental gymnastics.

It happens far too often. Especially on reddit. Whether they get affirmations or refutations they use either response to further cement their position. They love nothing more than to have some poor to try to refute them so they can be condescending to the lowly poors about how financially illiterate they are. And it gives them an opening to further contort their argument out loud about how they make so much money yet are as poor as those with the lowest income. In other words it’s out of touch rich people shit.

This kind of comment chain happens so much it’s basically scripted.
