Given the identity ICE agents have of themselves, as a muscular brute standing between civilized Americans and barbaric outsiders, fat-shaming them is reasonable. Also, they don’t deserve to be treated as human beings. Even murderers deserve better than ICE agents.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•CHAT CONTROL REJECTED AGAIN BY PARLIAMENTEnglish
1·5 days agoThat sounds kinda reasonable then. If the company has access to the chat logs in plain text, they should probably be scanning it for CSAM. Though the use of AI to identify it is concerning, given the low accuracy. And I guess there’s also the risk of communications with someone’s doctor being flagged.
On reflection it’s still a dumb law.

Political Memes@lemmy.world•Always remember, both sides are just as bad!English
1·7 days agoI was banned from the lemmy.ml memes community for saying the Democrats are slightly better than Republicans. After saying it I needed to argue with 20 people at once, all with preprepared arguments, who were adamant that both sides are the same.
I’ve also recently seen that that community is extremely toxic in other ways.

The vertical axis is labelled “gun homicides”. That’s not a very useful statistic.
Whatever the correct arrangement is, Hungary or Tajikistan need to be on the right side.

12·18 days agoJust make me CEO of a company. Surely I can’t do worse than the crop of people they’re currently finding.
Purely based on vibes, I think Mint takes security less seriously than Fedora and OpenSUSE.
Fedora v OpenSUSE.
IIRC it’s been mathematically proven that no single-member electoral system can be perfect. If it wins in one area it fails in another.
My preferred system is to use a standard ranked ballot, count it using IRV until every candidate has above 20% and then switch to ranked pairs (so there are no spoilers, but the daylight savings party doesn’t end up winning by default).
Proportional representation leads to total chaos at government formation, and in Europe it has largely failed to stop the far-right because it gives the far-right a platform by default. It’s not really a better system than STV. The best system is probably a mix between STV and condorcet.
I live in Australia. We have STV at federal elections and PR in Tasmania. Tasmania has gone from the strongest economy in the country to the weakest, as a result of PR.
Anything is better than FPTP though.
GNOME feels great to use based on the 10 seconds I used it for.
But I don’t like GNOME for many reasons.
Maybe 2026 is finally the year of touching grass.
That would either be terrible for right-to-repair on cameras, or be easily bypassed. And I don’t even know what PKI would mean for text.
FPTP doesn’t allow for third parties.
I got banned from “lemmy.ml” memes community for saying exactly this.
They charge money for a free OS, but they don’t use that money to provide more than installation support. They don’t offer troubleshooting support or upstream improvements.

Fatshaming is almost never done out of a genuine concern for the person’s health, and it’s debatable how effective it is at getting people to lose weight. Especially because of how confusing the process is.
