But just saying out of hand “democracy works” is not a fact, it is an unproven assertion. Some charity groups work, most do not. Many charity groups like the largest vegan group DXE have SA charges among the leadership. Youth organizations collapse all the time. If democracy works then how come democratic countries elect authoritarians and fascists like the Republicans in US or Nazi’s or even AFD in Germany? How come democratic countries elect people like Boris Johnson, Marie Le Pen, Bolsonaro, and Sanae Takaichi? Citation needed is just that, I’d like to know where these democratic nations and organizations that exist that actually work. Doesn’t seem like it works to me. Sounds nice in theory but I wouldn’t say it “works” and clearly if we just assume out of hand that it does, we’ll just keep repeating the mistakes that make it not work.

There has never been a democracy, so we don’t know if it works or not. Democracy is an ideal state. We all live under a dictatorship of capital.

They’re a well known troll. Every discussion related to this topic is political in nature, especially when they are an agenda driven troll who is literally misrepresenting the truth and lying. But you are another carnivore diet promoting shill. Talk to my block list dirtbag
According to this https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4830a1.htm heart disease has declined since the introduction of “industrial oils”
“Age-adjusted death rates for stroke have declined steadily since the beginning of the century. Since 1950, stroke rates have declined 70%, from 88.8 in 1950 to 26.5 in 1996. Total age-adjusted CVD death rates have declined 60% since 1950 and accounted for approximately 73% of the decline in all causes of deaths during the same period”
I am going to block you because you are a lying, anti-science, shill promoting something I find offensive. I do not believe you are discussing in good faith despite your tone and do not want to engage.
While we don’t have statistics going back to the revolutionary era, it is worth noting people weren’t healthier in the past, heart disease has been one of the top killers for a very long time.
According to the CDC https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/53236 heart disease is in fact one of the leading costs of death for the past 100+ years
In 1900, the earliest year on this chart the leading cause of death were Pneumonia, Tuberculosis, Diarrhea and Heart disease in that order. The top three have all been substantially addressed.
According to this https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4830a1.htm heart disease has DECLINED since the introduction of “industrial oils”

The premise behind MAHA is flawed, how can Americans become healthy again if they were never particularly healthy to begin with?
For anyone reading this, This position is not backed by any actual science and is in fact refuted by many, many studies over decades. And this person is a shill for a MAHA style diet.

6·2 months agoLemmy doesn’t have any competitors, it isn’t competing. It isn’t what you think it is. You are still using a corporate framing for a non corporate system. There is no company, there is no manger, there is no goal. This measurement is only to say 35k people are using it now, but it doesn’t matter is my entire point. “Lemmy” is a federated network for enthusiasts with no corporate direction that is still in early development. There is no competitor, growth isn’t the purpose of it, it is software made by communists.

6·2 months agoMAU is a number that matters to corporations and advertisers. No one running a Lemmy server is either of these so that metric isn’t really useful or say anything.
Lemmy has been going for 6 years now and it is still new. It isn’t even version 1.0. Success in Lemmy is not what you think it is. The most successful Lemmy server is Hexbear because it stands alone and is growing the community they want.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•How to make the Fediverse more appealing for following sports??English
2·2 months agoI’m starting to think the Fediverse has the wrong focus. We keep talking about growing MAU and promoting “the Fediverse” as if it’s a product, but that’s backwards. Before Reddit and Twitter, niche communities grew around websites like fansites, blogs, and tools that happened to have a forum attached. People came for the content, and stayed for the conversation.
So instead of just telling people to join Lemmy or Mastodon or promoting sports on Lemmy, we should embed Fediverse features into purpose-built websites. That creates a feedback loop: the site promotes the community, and the community fuels the site. You can build out unique features like scoreboards, event calendars, or curated resources and then use Lemmy threads as the discussion layer. Some users will interact directly on the site, while others can subscribe via their own Fediverse client. Everyone wins.
That’s exactly what I’m trying to do with Vegan Home Cooks. I’m syncing Lemmy posts into the site, but I’m also building out original features beyond just the forum. The goal is for the site to be the thing people discover and remember, with federation as the invisible engine underneath. I’m still figuring out the recipe for success, but I think this model has more potential than evangelizing Lemmy.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Quadruple moderation is killing lemmy. It’s a Gift to RedditEnglish
6·2 months agoLemmy just isn’t what you think it is. The monthly user count doesn’t matter. If people wanted reddit content they would just go to Reddit. Lemmy is a replacement for the small scale human authored forums of the 2000s. Reddit killed them with embrace, extend, extinguish. Lemmy isn’t a replacement for Reddit, it is a replacement for the thing Reddit extinguished.
I don’t care about reddit posts and traditional social media. If I did I would just use that. I use reddit to moderate and participate in my small community with a few posts a week and I think it is going well.
