  • yeah it gets a bit frustrating when i would like to see more invested into new stories (not saying this never happens, it does! i just mean…even more lol). i do think its possible for remakes to be good (or even great!) so i try to keep an open mind about them but imo an ideal remake/reboot needs to have a strong vision and forge its own identity, nod to the original but also very much do its own thing. tricky balance and maybe its just that theres rarely enough time/money/patience/risktaking given to support good, fresh writing :/

  • if i may, i suggest focusing more on supporting smaller creators instead, it will make a much bigger difference to them. if there is a youtuber whose work u really like, kick em a few bux on their patreon or kofi, bc most of those ppl get shit all revenue, esp if they don’t get sponsors or get demonetised a lot, and youtube takes a big cut of donos. imo supporting ppl that way, buying music & merch off bandcamp, commissioning artists or buying from their online shop, support ur local arthouse/indie cinema, putting some $ into kickstarters/backerkits, etc - that helps pay ppls rent & bills. everyone can do what they like with their own money but for me, it makes no sense to give millionaires more cash when u can help someone who is operating on a shoestring.

  • i took up drawing this year and enjoy it a lot, i’m not good at it quite yet but it is cheap to start, fun, you can do it pretty much anywhere, and it’s given me a nice confidence boost tbh because i was always convinced it was something i could never do. i like that i’m always learning something new with it too, and progressing in a visible way. i’m not looking at it with the aim of making money though, it’s for fun & good for my brain. highly recommend.

  • nah i left mastodon so i could have my own sharkey instance instead 😎

i do have a bluesky account but i don’t feel compelled to post on there much tbh. it’s fine, but i found it a lot harder to actually find interaction there even when i was making effort. also the feed system is balls (many feeds i use are frequently broken) and they only recently implemented hashtags, which almost nobody seems to use? there are definitely things i like about it too (the more casual vibe, for one) but at the end of the day it is another corporate platform, which i would prefer to spend minimal time on.

  • this week i have been going through the 1970s Christmastime BBC ghost stories, mostly adaptations of MR James stories but a couple of originals in there too, mostly very enjoyable and a lot of them have some truly wtf moments. great for spooky season and they are nice & short too.

as for newer stuff, Teacup & The Penguin are the only weekly tv watches i am really hanging out for right now. also i keep trying to watch Ludwig but although i enjoy it, i inevitably fall asleep around halfway through each episode, just too cosy i guess? 😅

for movies i watched The Substance & Alien: Romulus, i liked the latter a lot more than the former but i’m glad lots of people seem to be enjoying body horror lately.
