  • Its less derangement and more hypervigilance because theres no real disclosure etiquette. There are nicer ways to check an OP for it than that tho…

I’m a visual artist with a sharp eye for AI who inspects every image anymore, and will vouch: the human giveaways for this being real are the consistency of repeated elements (cigarettes, flags), clarity of text (written consistently, makes sense even when cut off or at odd angles), and sensible variation in detail (it is unimportant to flesh out hundreds of packs of cigs bc most viewers have the cultural shorthand for it, it is important to render the counter mat that seems to list food offerings or advertisements.)

Hopefully this can help sharpen the next guys AI detection so OP doesnt catch any more undue strays 🫣

  • I’m sure this is a pithy joke (and carry on if so) but for anyone who wants the real answer…its an old algorithm thing.

Way back when, Facebook didnt like the influx of tumblr/reddit screenshots (aka The Federation Mom Says We Have At Home), nor did they like the spreading of information via digital flyers.

They suppressed images that were over a certain percentage text, and one way to get around it was to present the text as part of another image. Designers could get around this with art and such, but scrapers and many screenshotters kinda just use whatever.

Edit: in this case, it seems the creator went with the strategy of “smiling young white woman in car” which most algos smile favorably upon as opposed to say, a photo of the people the tweet is actually about.

  • I don’t think it’s tangentially related? You have effectively contrasted the Right Thing To Do comment with your experience of the Wrong Thing To Do as well as its terrible, lifelong impact.

I too had that flavor of (let’s say unkind) upbringing and now I devote every waking moment to tearing that garbage out of me and installing something more like what u/moakley described
