When I first came here almost 5 years ago now, I tried to rationalize it to myself in that way. But this place has the same main problem as does Reddit or Facebook or Instagram or TikTok… (or Digg or myspace or stumbleupon…)

Shitty people. They’ve everywhere, and you can’t really avoid them, especially online. Interacting with people like that takes a psychological toll, and it can turn even the nicest people into shitty people, too. My best advice: start using those time-limiting options that your phones and computers offer to time limit your ability to interact with social media apps. Even in the fediverse.

It baffles me how this guy became an icon.

I’m sure the fact that he was really hot had a lot to do with it. The guy was very nice to look at, and that worked very well in the use of widespread visual propaganda.
