I still do not see on friendica the direct reply to OP that I had made on Lemmy. On friendica, I see only three direct replies to the original post. Significantly less than here on Lemmy.

In piefed and in friendica you can follow people. I am not sure though, if I understood you right and if you want this.

One more thing: in order to make it work for you, you really have to dig through the manyfold settings and somehow make yourself understand how channels and all that stuff works. Best would be if you had somebody who explained it to you.

It seems to me that this situation - an instance shutting down and community copies continuing to exist on other instances - has a potential frequency of a few times per year or more.

So, I wonder if there is no standard process, best practice, checklist, or any other recommendation by the development team of Lemmy?

Is there no measure to prevent the situation that users join zombie group copies again and again? Like the one I joined; it is still there. Each day other users could find it, be happy to join it and be frustrated by the resulting experiences.

Actually I activated this option, but at least for me it is a pity that posts that I have opened or voted for also disappear. I want to actively decide for a post to go away. like an e-mail inbox.

But there is a 50%-workaround for me; I will just continue using Voyager with it’s built-in app specific hide feature.

Interesting issue; I use Voyager app, because there I can swipe away posts, and then they are hidden from me. I really miss this bad in Piefed-Web-UI, so I rarely use it.

For me, it is a must-feature that I can follow this kind of inbox-zero-workflow.

Now I know that it is possible in PieFed too, with the described options (see other comments). It seems to me, though, that up-/downvoting only to make the post hidden is not the ideal way (although it works for the individual user). Opening it to hide it is also not perfect; several interactions instead of one (like in Voyager), and maybe I do not want it to disappear after reading. Maybe I also want to vote but still keep it visible. Voyagers approach is best, it seems to me.

It would be great if, in Lemmy and PieFed Web, there was an efficient way to hide - independent of voting or reading. Maybe there is - and I don’t know it?!

Now I figured out by systematic trying how to make sure that Facebook actually shows the post with images, and not only the link. I tried it with pixelfed. It worked 2 times when I pasted the link into a new post in the web app of Facebook, but it did not work when I posted the same link from the android app. Weird, but manageable.:) Example where it works: https://www.facebook.com/774580511/posts/10175467680010512/ edit 27.09.26: just tried it again. Finally it worked, after pacing it in Chrome on Android into the Facebook website. Making it in Facebook app did not work. but strange: it did not work several times before in browser. It seems like it does not work when the link does not end with the question mark and then some whatever afterwards. Doesn’t really make sense and I don’t know if it’s really reproducible. I will keep updating here until I have a final result.

My chosen, tender way to motivate non tech people to leave big Tech platforms for the fediverse is to post sth nice (nice pics, family info,…) on Friendica, Pixelfed or Lemmy, and then paste the link on Facebook, so that my Facebook friends see it, like what they see, get curious what’s that strange platform they had never heard of, register.

Problem 1: Sometimes FB shows the linked posts picture, sometimes it doesn’t. Problem 2: Some instances deactivate that content can be shown by external platforms like FB.

So far I did it three times; 1 (my friendica instance) didn’t show the pic though. So far, the success count is still on 0. But I still hope it will work :)

Good to know better now ; before I thought it was part of fediverse. now I know that fediverse is basically defined by some level of communication via ActivityPub.

Thank you for your input. I was fearing right that; that for having the full functionality you need a native account for the respective service (in most cases). But it is not very problematic for me. I just didn’t want to do a complete stupidity by opening five accounts instead of using just one. Thanks again!
