That is the explanation for the rest of the world. But the question implied by the post is why US-Americans don’t do anything to stop their leader as the Germans did not do anything to stop their leader.

Technology@lemmy.world•What old game still does something better than most modern games?English
2·2 months agoI’m a big fan of racing games. No real racing simulation, but more arcade style. When I got a Xbox Series X as my first games console after over a decade I first downloaded Forza Horizon 5, because it’s supposed to be one of the best racing games on Xbox. I was so anoyed by the whole story… I just want to race and nothing else.
I got NFS Hot Pursuit Remastered. Loved the original when I was fun and enjoyed the Remaster on Xbox.
Some games just try to add more and more and to please everyone but in the end nobody is completly happy with the result.

Sounds like the setup can be quite complicated. ;)
I might need to dive into that topic.

Linux@lemmy.ml•To the Korean Linux users: Which distro would you recommend?
1·3 months agoSure, it always does.
I’m fine choosing the best fitting distro from all these points mentioned in the post you linked.
Unfortunately the post does not cover the only question I have: Is there a distro with specially good multi Keyboard layout support.
For most people - including myself - this is never an issue, because they use only one layout. But especially people from countries with non latin alphabets really need this.

Linux@lemmy.ml•To the Korean Linux users: Which distro would you recommend?
2·3 months agoHe may have a limited ability to understand what she needs from her os as a dual language user, and as a non technical user she may not either in a way that’s helpful to him in trying to understand the options and setup process in front of him. A less technical user may not be able to communicate how or why something isn’t working the way they need, and he has no context or experience from which to infer.
Yes, that’s exactly it. I can technically set it it up somehow. But I have no feeling for how the layout switch should work well.
My wife on the other hand had problems to pinpoint what exactly make it feel unnatural when switching the layout. But as I figured out thx to another comment, many Korean keeboards have a dedicated key to switch the layout.
My wife is a typer on the keyboard. And it might happen that she needs to switch the layout multiple times within a minute. Therefore this is something that should work without issues.

Linux@lemmy.ml•To the Korean Linux users: Which distro would you recommend?
7·3 months agoYou’re right! I just checked and it was a dedicated key to switch the layout. That makes it easier!
I think one thing that bothered my wife when she used my notebook was the keyboard shortcut to switch the language.

Games@lemmy.world•Shortly After Xbox Game Pass Prices Spiked, the Page to Cancel Game Pass Subscriptions Was OverwhelmedEnglish
3·4 months agoThanks for clarifying! You are right, I thought they sold complete systems with just Steam OS, like the Steam Deck, but as a console. Seems like I was wrong around it.
Just to make sure: I’m aware one can also use the desktop mode on SteamOS, but it’s not really necessary.

Games@lemmy.world•Shortly After Xbox Game Pass Prices Spiked, the Page to Cancel Game Pass Subscriptions Was OverwhelmedEnglish
3·4 months agoYeah, I know that this is just a computer. From a skill point of view I have no problem to assemble it and set it up. The thing is I work in IT and spend the whole day on the computer. I do not want to administrate any system in my free time. That’s something I love about consoles. I’m aware they limit the possibilties, but they also low maintenance. I never actively installed system updates on my Xbox Series X, it is just done in the background. I turn it on and play. In worst case I need to install a game update. I have a store interface where I can buy and install games with pressing a few buttons. Inside the game, I do not need to play around with the graphic settings to find what runs best. If at all, I need to decide between graphics and performance mode. That’s what I love about consoles and do not want to have a gaming PC.
Consoles have obvious limitations, but they make it much easier if all you want to do is play.

Games@lemmy.world•Shortly After Xbox Game Pass Prices Spiked, the Page to Cancel Game Pass Subscriptions Was OverwhelmedEnglish
2·4 months agoYeah, but what I love about consoles is the nearly zero maintenance. Updates are installed completly in the background. I work the whole day on IT stuff. I do not want to administrate any system in my free time.
And I like to play some more graphic intensiv games, not only retro stuff.
From this points of view Xbox and Playstation are great. I’m just getting less and less happy with the business model behind it. I’m totally fine with paying for stuff. But I never liked the subscription and the higher the monthly prices get the less attractive it is for me.
I think Gnome is the most beautyful Desktop out there. But it’s UX drives me crazy. I tried it a few times but never could get used to it. I always needed extensions to customize it to my needs. But that’s also what I want to avoid because extensions might break in the future. Therefore, Gnome is simply not the right Desktop for me.
But I’m happy for everyone who likes to use Gnome. The great thing about Linux: We have a choice!

5·4 months agoI agree. But if you are on a console and want to play online, you already need a subscription.
I want a subscription free Console that supports online play.

92·4 months agoI just bought 12 month of Ultimate on eBay. I always did this in the past, because it’s cheaper than buying directly from Microsoft. So far, I made good experience with it.
The way it usually works is, that you get a few codes you need to redeem. I got three codes for 36 month of EA Play and then one code for Ultimate that is supposed to transform the EA Play subscription to 12 month Ultimate. But due to the the price hike, the subscription transformation changed as well and I did not get the 12 month.
I’m now in contact with the seller and he tries to find a solution. I want to have my 12 month Ultimate that he offered for the price. But it also sucks for the seller. Seems like we both didn’t know. He basically sold it to cheap. I paid 150€ for 12 month Ultimate and he just now increased the price to 200€.
The new prices are insane! 150€ a year is already my upper limit. I’m not gonna pay 200€ or even more a year. I think, if my new subscription is over, I will not extend it. I like the idea of Game Pass, but that’s to much money.
The thing is I really like Game Consoles. I want to play in front of my TV. I wish, Steam would make another Steam Machine with Steam OS. I do want an all in one solution. The last thing I want is a gaming PC. I hope, alternatives to Xbox Consoles and Playstation come up.
I know, I could also use the XBox without GamePass, but I do play online something and it would be nice to get away from subscriptions completly.

Technology@lemmy.world•How to Get Hardware Transcoding BACK on Your Synology NASEnglish
8·4 months agoI’m looking for a NAS and Synology was on the top of my list. But their new models only support Synology HDDs. That is already a huge red flag. And now that. Feels like Synology really doesn’t care about their customers…
I might go with a self build solution.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most ridiculous reason why someone sent you death threats?
3·4 months agoTelegram: Someone threatened to kill me and my family if I don’t transfer them my username. Some people are so sick.

It’s a more than 4 years old blog post.
I can’t tell much about the things that the writer complains about. But concerning Cosmic: I think a new additional DE is a win. People who like it can use it, others can skip it. More variation means more choice.
Personally: I find Cosmic still a bit barebone. It is very fast. It think it looks quite good (besides their wallpapers). It’s not yet there, where it needs to be for me to use it as a daily driver, but I find it impressive what System 76 released in their first final version.
Gnome is the most beautyful DE in my opinion, but I find it’s UX absolut horrible. I hate usining it without quite some extensions and I do absolutely not use it. Look at it, yeah. But using it is not intuitive at all for me.
Luckily, there are other DE’s I like. That’s the beauty about Linux.
