  • I tried terraform for my three node proxmox cluster and all the providers were shit (and one was written by a for-profit prison company).

I ended up just deploying manually, but I do heavily use ansible for things like let’s encrypt wild card cert renewal/installation and patch management.

I love terraform when the providers are good - my #dayjob is predominantly spinning up hybrid cloud/global AWS environments and we could not do what we do without tools like Cruft, Terraform, and Ansible.

That last one hits home. In high school in the early 2000’s I had to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It was awful and clunky and boring.

Smash cut up a few years ago when I turned 40 - I thought, “maybe I’ve got a different view now and this will be better”.

Nope, it’s all boomer you shit about “kids these days”.

Ah, I see your problem, you need to add --no-preserve-root.

See the French are super into wine - and grape vines are notoriously hard to get rid of, so if you want to really get rid of the French language pack, you need to rip that grapevine out by the root (e.g. don’t preserve the root). Otherwise, the French language pack will just grow back harder and Frenchier than before.

    Sacrebleu!

  • Social safety nets are laughable…

I think this is probably the #1, or close to the top reason why we don’t see more from Americans (including myself and my family).

I have medical conditions that would bankrupt me in a year if it weren’t for the shitty health insurance I get through work. I’m not quite living paycheck to paycheck, but it’s fucking close.

If I stop working, I’ll get fired (for cause) lose my health insurance and income and be SOL. My family will get fucked over. Heck, even my life insurance will stop existing because that’s through work too.

So what’s left? Weekend protests? Let me look up the next “No Kings” in this podunk town…

When your country is the size of Texas, a general strike or mass protest makes sense. When your country’s landmass is a bit smaller than all of Europe, but its population is less than half (and arguably 30% of that population thinks Trump is doing fine) - general strikes and mass protests don’t work well.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t protest, but you’ve gotta curb expectations and know the dynamic here is much, much less friendly for those activities. (It’s a big reason why I’m constantly on edge and having daily panic attacks.)

  • Tell me you’re slacking off at your day job without telling me you’re slacking off at your day job:

Landry, in a post on X, thanked Trump: “It’s an honor to serve … in this volunteer position to make Greenland a part of the U.S. This in no way affects my position as Governor of Louisiana!

Yes this is a distraction - but we also need to remind ourselves that this shit isn’t normal even if it weren’t a distraction.

In the middle of the Clinton blow job scandal, Bill didn’t go off saying New Brunswick needed to become a state to secure our national supply of bowling balls or some shit.

Trump can be making a distraction and also moving the Overton Window at the same time.
