  • No upvotes or downvotes from me. I think things are probably too nuanced to really be able to explain with any one underlying theory.

The idea that conflict arises from people attempting to be more like that which they find desirable may describe the pathological motivations of some, but it seems like a leap to say it is an underpinning of all society.

Different people have different motivations related to identity, material conditions, familial relations, etc.

The way societies organize themselves culminates in social structures based on the motivations of its members, but those motivations are too diverse to simplify into a single overarching framework.

  • I hop around a lot. I’ve used Akamai (fka linode), Vultr, DigitalOcean, AWS EC2, and GCP Compute Engine. I wouldn’t recommend the last 2 anymore because fuck big tech. A lot of people will mention Oracle’s free tier, but I don’t trust anyone that looks like Larry Ellison to own a machine with a direct connection into my local network.

  • I both bike and drive. I will say, at least in my town, both bicyclists and drivers are egregious traffic violators.

Bicyclists consistently ride on the sidewalk, go the wrong way down a one-way, and run red lights and stop signs. Drivers go way too fast, go the wrong way down a one-way, and run red lights and stop signs.

If bicyclists are going to be on the road, then they need to be licensed. Also, drivers should probably require re-testing when licenses are renewed.
