  • The higher we soar, the harder we fall.

All the knowledge and resources that have built this wonderous technological world we live in, are finite, and it would only take a few well placed/timed natural/man-made disasters to revert us permanantly back to the iron age (at best) within months.

(Seriously, a large solar flare alongside a highly contageous and deadly disease could not only wipe out all electronics but also the majority of the minds and bodies required to mine, trade, manufacture, build and operate them.)

And that’s without even acknowledging the looming catastrophic climate collapse and resource depletion coming for us this century. Without stable climates, arable land and fresh water, there is no life.

Enjoy the last of the abundance we have, but don’t be so optimistic as to be blind to it’s precariousness.

  • I’m trying to enjoy the last of the abundance of good things, and have been educating myself mercilessly on how bad things are likely to get.

When I have the spoons and relevant opportunity, I try to spread some of the knowledge I’ve accumulated too.

Good things wise, I’m mainly leaning into my hobbies and interests of perfume, food and gaming.

    • so trying and collecting scents that comfort and interest me, eating and cooking with lots of fruits and vegetables that will be hard to come by once fresh water and arable land stop being so readily available, and recently I’ve also been collecting and playing all the pixel dungeon games.

Education and escaspism are two sides of the same coin imo.

Usually it just means that the topic of the meme/comic/etc is divisive somehow.

I’m pretty sure this poster is the same one who posted these a few weeks ago.

They get a lot of ⚠️ next to their usernames and just seem to post comics and delete their account to make a new one and do the same thing every however long.

If people stopped downvoting memes, they probably wouldn’t have to delete and make new accounts all the time.

Massive amounts of downvotes display as warnings next to the username on certain instances, and this will attract more downvotes. There’s possibly also a posting limit for people with huge amounts of downvotes, and more of a chance of instances hiding these posts.

  • Not usually but I did when reading The Locked Tomb books; the never-ending density of information with the potential to be relevant later/earlier/right now but you just don’t know it yet, was far too much to keep track of otherwise.

They’re incredible books but it’s one hell of a mental work out reading them whilst keeping tabs on what is actually going on, and that only just starts to happen properly on the second read-through.

My notes were scribbles in a notebook with page and paragraph numbers next to a quote of the interesting or enlightening phrase, and if a theory was forming I’d add a few words outlining it and underline key ones. That way I could skim over my notes and pick out which bit related to what and where in the book it was.
