Auto glass is layered, and designed to shatter in non-sharp(ish) pieces. This helps it break in this fashion. Aquarium glass is not, last I checked.

FWIW, in the US at least, you don’t have to live in the area to register for membership with any municipal library and you can have a many as you want.

Using Libby (et al), I can pretty easily find the book I’m looking for —or, then go look at Anna’s, etc. 🖖🏼

I’ve not personally attempted it, ^ahem but AFAIK it’s fairly foolproof —though my sources* also preferred to grind/scuff down the metal bits a little to help improve kinetic transference. Who knows. 😉
