My personal favorite is when they kidnapped Rice’s mascot/owl effigy (warning: Purdue-Pete-level creepy) in 1917 and Rice had to mount a literal heist to retrieve it. The only good account of the story was on Reddit here, but it really is worth the read.
The MOB is a scramble band, like Stanford’s, and in Texas it engenders a lot of the same love-hate reactions. I will say I think the peculiar anti-Stanford-band bias on that other site probably has more to do with the high number of “proper” marching band alumni in the sub.
