MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rich Rodriguez, winner of 190 games and 12 outright or shared conference or division championships, has been named the 36th head football coach at West Virginia University, Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker announced today.
Rich Rod’s first stint at WVU was before I followed college football (obviously I am aware of his success and the crazy 2007 season) so I will only speak to his coaching ability in recent years (not gonna touch his abysmal Wolverine stint): I think he is going to win more games than the average candidate would at WVU. It is downright impressive to win 10 games at Arizona and also to guide an FCS team up to FBS to win a conference (I know CUSA stinks but it’s still not easy). Even if he doesn’t come close to the success he had in the Big East days, I expect him to be better than Holgo and Brown.
That being said, I heard Anthony Becht’s name floated and I would much rather have him if I were a Mountaineer.
