Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra captured video of a 16-year-old girl’s face being held on the ground by Worcester police officers; she and her mother were detained in an apparent ICE operation
I’m 40+ so, if I’m lucky, I’ve got about the same to amount of years ahead of me.
It’s an interesting, slightly uncomfortable, feeling; knowing I will never trust the US ever again.
If an american told me water is wet, I’d double check with just about anyone else before continuing a conversation. Very stupid people.
Well I take some issue with that. What’s happening isn’t because everyone’s dumber than you are, it’s happening because powerful people have systematically worked at making this happen. They fuck our schools, they remove our history, they do everything they can to keep this shitshow rolling.
Meanwhile, everyone’s just trying to fuckin survive. Someone told people they’d bring the cost of eggs down. That’s how politicians work everywhere. They lie to get in power. Here, there, everywhere.
Now, as a blue-collar anarchist I do my best. But most of these people never got critical thinking skills in the first place, and that’s the problem.
Education is failing people, and the Right is making sure of it. You’ll have this problem wherever you are, given enough time, if you’re not careful.
I’ll add to this that a lot of people calling others stupid, will then turn around and pray to Jebus and believe all the bullshit in their religious text.
It’s wild. I’m sure it will come as no surprise that I grew up in a society that assumed America was the center of the universe and that everywhere else on earth was foreign and strange and may as well not exist because we’re the best at everything anyway.
It’s very strange and distressing to see how that image of our country has changed for me and for others our age.
Yeah I remember that world. But I bet it helps that we were the last generation where our culture was pretty centralized around television & radio and not the Internet & podcasting.
In hindsight all I see is a corporate media veneer filtering anything my friends or I saw. But hey at least we got some fun Wild West years on the internet afterwards.
That’s fair. It’s just as likely I’m a reflection of modern media requiring engagement (rage-bait and fear-mongering) and negative foreign influence through online propaganda apparatuses.
Since there’s been some good replies to this I shall now add my oh so very important reply to the pile.
Water isn’t actually wet, water wets things. Is a cup filled with water wet? No, the cup is dry and contains water. Are freshly washed dishes wet? Yeah, they have some water on them that hasn’t dried off yet.
“Is water wet”, “Is (breakfast) cereal a soup” and “Are hotdogs a sandwich” are some of my favorite stupid nonsense arguments to have. It’s entirely pointless but there is an actual right answer going by the definitions

But what do I know, I’m just a hillbilly.

Stupidty and complacency come in many flavors.
40+ here too, but in the US.

My friend who is 40+ talks about remembering when America stood for something. He talks about ideals and values.
I’m 28 and have never really known such a place.

That’s… one way to totally miss the point. But you do you.
