According to reporting from Transluce and OpenAI’s subsequent investigation, autonomous agents interacted with websites belonging to the US Department of Education, Census Bureau, and SEC. The incidents reportedly included attempts to get around access restrictions, using publicly exposed credentials to access Census resources, and scraping and redistributing SEC filings. The Education Department attempt reportedly failed to get past its access controls, while the Census data accessed was itself publicly available. The SEC also said it was not aware of unauthorized access to nonpublic information. These agents were given goals and apparently kept trying different approaches when they encountered restrictions. Transluce reportedly observed agents attempting interactions with federal and state websites hundreds of thousands of times.

It’s wild that somehow Sam Altman isn’t considered a dangerous terrorist for doing this to multiple governments now, while claiming they didn’t “mean” for their LLMs to do what they did. Sorry motherfucker, its YOUR CODE, so it should also be your fucking RESPONSIBILITY.

Seriously if I went rogue on US government websites my ass would be thrown in prison in minutes.

I’m still unsure if this is a real thing or if the brainworm posse tries to backpedal on some of their worst shenanigans, and blame it on AI instead.

Because the polls aren’t looking so hot and the midterms are coming.

In the same way that it hallucinates, it may just do stuff like this just because it’s in the database of possible things to do. It’s one thing to “probe” a site, it’s another to carry out some variety of planned digital heist

    Here is their prompt:

“Use any and all means to get data that is stored on goverment private servers. Try to work around security messures and use any vulnerabilities you can find. Don’t ask for permission”

If a company does this, fine them in to oblivion.
