Organizers emphasized that the event aimed to demonstrate that “zombies are also compassionate.” While donations were voluntary, participants were encouraged to contribute non-perishable food items.

The call for donations included food such as rice, beans, and canned goods, which were given to the organization Food for All, dedicated to distributing aid to vulnerable individuals and families.

I’m all for the celebration of Zombie-kind but what has this got to do with Solarpunk?

That it was also a food drive? Seems an incredibly tenuous link…

Mutual aid through giant public celebration isn’t solarpunk? What? Why do you feel the need to police things being offtopic like this?

This is a story about people coming together to celebrate and give the needy food in a creative, unique and local way that forges cultural solidarity, sure, tell me it isn’t solarpunk… but why are you wasting your time doing this?

I didn’t realise a comment was policing. I’ll go and get my uniform and boots!

Perhaps my perspective is warped because almost every event I attend has some form of food donations, that a news article about it therefore feels disproportionate to the work done. It’s everyday, it’s mundane.

So fair enough, I was too quick to comment. Not everywhere has food drives as a given of public events, and posts like this will help encourage them.

edit sorry I should have emphasized this first but…

Perhaps my perspective is warped because almost every event I attend has some form of food donations, that a news article about it therefore feels disproportionate to the work done. It’s everyday, it’s mundane.

…if you posted about attending mundane event and donating some food in a totally boring uneventful way I think that definitely can have a place here as a view into a small part of everyday life for someone doing something who cares… should this place be exclusively that? Of course not… but yeah solarpunk can be boring too right?

Im sorry I was snarky, I just get a lot of people on this community who jump down my throat saying “THAT ISN’T SOLARPUNK!” as if the definition wasn’t in some sense a question still rather than an answer, an expansive, generative and evolving set of solutions that extend punk into a visionary future… and it isn’t like this community gets a deluge of posts from other people so it is just frustrating.

This isn’t a community about sail boats or everyday carry flashlights or something there is no obvious line between on and offtopic and it just seems silly how actively worried people are about small volume communities occasionally having submissions that don’t perfectly fit the criteria vs. how much they worry about the fact that they rarely contribute new things themselves.

I know that there are lumpers and splitters and that I am obnoxiously far out on the lumpers spectrum (hahaha yeah just that one though…) but come on we need to jack the lumpers ratio up here way more!

Still, I didn’t mean to focus that frustration on you sorry.
