If any change is to come to the 6+6 model, it will likely be after the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Apparently, changes have to be unanimous until the contract is done. Aresco and PAC-2 going to extract some concessions if anything is gonna happen.

2 G5 champs could still get in over the Pac2 champ.

The headline makes it sound like the 12-team system will be extended beyond the current 2-year (24+25) deal, but really the article is just a fluffed up way of saying there is no news on the future of the playoff format.

I’m not really expecting any developments until next year, and honestly it’ll probably be after the conclusion of the '24 season, once we’ve seen what the 12-team playoff looks like. By then, the fate of the 2pac should be evident so it might just boil down to keeping Aresco happy (any news on how they backfill SMU’s departure?)

Yes, after the contract is up, it’s going to be a case of “What is the minimum we can do both to keep the G5 from suing the P4 and keep the ACC/B12 from publicly lobbying against the SEC/B1G?”

Backfill will be interesting. They went heavy on Texas schools in the last round, likely expecting SMU to depart to the PAC. Army is a low-friction choice if they’re willing, and UConn for football would work if the Huskies have given up on anything more lucrative. I think the AAC’s TV contract is far enough beyond the SBC that they could poach from them, and ODU and GSU sort of fit the profile as urban schools in medium-to-large metros.
