Summary
Japan plans to deploy long-range missiles on Kyushu to bolster defenses against China and North Korea amid concerns over U.S. security commitments under Trump.
The missiles, with a 1,000km range, will be stationed at two existing bases but not on Okinawa to avoid provoking China.
Experts argue this move strengthens Japan’s security and alliance with the U.S. However, uncertainty over Trump’s stance on defense treaties has raised concerns.
Some analysts suggest Japan may reconsider its pacifist policies and even debate acquiring nuclear weapons.

The world has shown that time and again non-nuclear states are the pawns of nuclear states. In the past the US has been a stabilizing force in offering military support to allies which has largely kept them from needing/wanting nukes.
Thanks to mad king don we will likely have nuclear proliferation the like the world has not yet seen.
To be perfectly honest, I clocked the “this ship has sailed” moment for nuclear non-proliferation to be when the non-Russian signatories of the Budapest Memorandum did nothing in 2014, and (considering the context) fell very far short of providing “robust security guarantees” to Ukraine in the face of the 2022 invasion and open phase of the war.
What would “robust security guarantees” look like, you ask? Take over Ukrainian IADS. Just plug it into the NATO air defense network. Ukrainians can do what they want, but we’d backstop their air defense, and plink every single modern Russian jet and chopper out the sky. Make them bust out Yak-9 museum pieces or some shit.
Agreed. If I was a little state I’d be working on my nuclear program like mad right now.
like mad
Pun intended?
He will get his comission when SpaceX is selling the only tickets to mars. Musk is a genius.
Yup.
Someone needs to get a few nukes over to Palestine so this war can finally be ended.
However, uncertainty over Trump’s stance on defense treaties has raised concerns.

That’s just excellent work republiQans. You’ve destabilized everything. Kudos.
I feel like we’re standing on top of a melting glacier labeled ww3 that’s going to flip any second now but we’re not entirely sure when. Not saying Japan shouldn’t be in control of the means to protect themselves. We’re just in a dangerous situation with the US going batshit while having so much global influence, lots of contries’ relationships with each other feel in flux
Well, I can’t think of any reason to be concerned. No history here.
