There is no cure for PFB, but laser hair removal is the most effective long-term solution, according to the US Pharmacist.

So… instead of a shaving chit, give 'em a laser waiver?

How about we don’t expect black men to permanently give up their facial hair because of a fucking job.

If they had a threat of chemical warfare, they would have to shave too. You can’t get a good gas mask seal with facial hair unless you use a ton of Vaseline and have time to prepare.

Yes, in those circumstances everyone needs to be clean shaven. But it’s not an everyday thing and a Marine with the condition could deal with the problem afterwards.

Shaving was because of gas masks. The mask needs rubber-on-skin contact to make an airtight seal, and a beard prevents that from happening. If there’s a threat of chemical warfare, shaving chits get revoked.

NGL I have PFB (my hairs are stupid curly) and I’m kind of stoked that this article mentioned the laser hair removal because I didn’t know that would work.

I would rather just grow my beard but that’s a different problem

Lazer hair removal for the parts you don’t want to shave. Then let the rest grow.

You’ll gain the super power of looking well put together after waking up from a three day bender.

No. Bone spurs was a way for a rich asshole to dodge the draft.

This is explicitly a way to kick poor black men, volunteers, out of the military.

Or maybe it’s that black Sargent that some racist captain wants gone.

Purging the military of minorities is never a good sign.

So as far as I can see their plan so far appears to be to reduce the size of the military, while at the same time making enemies of trained personnel. Doesn’t seem particularly well thought out.

You must not be a citizen. It’s worse when “Sabotage our military in which members of my family are serving” is the accurate statement

I don’t know how he does it, but Trump consistently finds a way to show me even more evidence that he’s Putin’s puppet.

I was convinced when ze Russians astroturfed the web in 2016.

Since then every 3 months or so he’ll do something completely batshit crazy that only makes sense if he’s trying to help Putin

Same here. There’s no way sabotaging your own country down to the core isn’t intentional.

I’ve seen veterans post on these articles before about why the way this is being spun is utter bullshit, so I’ll share the brief gist of it here:

As a soldier, one is trained on a lot of things that civilians simply are not expected to deal with. One of those things is NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) countermeasures - which is to say, full bodysuits and extremely durable, though often uncomfortable, respirators. The regulations state that you must be able to wear the mask effectively. This means you can have (at most) very short stubble, but definitely not an actual beard, because the mask just doesn’t seal correctly or comfortably with facial hair, or in some cases, severe razor bumps. This policy was also adjusted in 2022, and this “change” is essentially rolling back the adjustment, because it wasn’t working. This is also not a new thing. It’s been a factor that is monitored in soldiers for decades to ensure the army can do army things in the event someone decides to use chemical weapons. It’s about mission readiness. It’s not a racist policy. Certain skin types tend to have more issues with razor bumps. That’s it. That’s the whole story.
