Me (13 years old at the time): Dad, Mom’s cheating on you. I saw her making out with this man.

Dad: Listen here, princess. The guy’s filthy rich, and when you have money, it’s normal to have a hot mistress like your mom.

Me: But aren’t you jealous?

Dad: laughs

I was flabbergasted, lmao.

The Aunt that never finished elementary school once told me:

“I don’t believe in evolution, because I didn’t believe a baby could be born smarter than its parents”

I was 10-13 years old at the time and just didn’t have the patience to deal with that level of stupid.

When I did my PhD, I was chatting with another PhD student there. I told him I went to a museum where they had a really cool lineup of all the early hominids, all the way back to Lucy.

And he said something like “why would you care about all those deformed humans?” So I went “no, I mean, the proto humans, before they evolved into homo sapiens”. I laughed and said “aren’t you too smart to believe in evolution?”

So yeah, you don’t have to be stupid to be an idiot.

It bothers me that Creationists somehow think failing to understand Evolution is the same as debunking it.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard “No that’s not evolution, that’s just an adaptation.”

Had a conversation with my mom one time that was essentially this.

Mom: Do you believe in evolution.

Me: Absolutely there’s tons of evidence supporting it… Uhhhh do you?

Mom: I don’t believe in evolution but I believe in adaptation over time.

Me: Mom that exactly what evolution is.

        Mom: Oh, really?

I’ve had some people at least try to say “Oh sure a dog can adapt but it’s still just a different kind of dog.”

Which I can sorta get. I mean it’s still wrong, but at least I get why someone can believe in adaptation but not evolution if that’s their logic.

And it is hard to argue. We watch bacteria evolve and it’s still bacteria.

Of course the answer is “Evolution to change a species takes longer and the fossil record proves this.”

But I can see how they’re getting the wrong answer.

Ugh, that’s exactly why it’s impossible to argue or even educate them, their definition is so skewed and the complete and utter lack of critical thinking skills.

PS: I’m gunna use that: “Your failing to understand is not debunking, it’s only showing your complete and utter ignorance/stupidity…”
