Big tech is obviously bad but you can paraphrase „every empire is evil but not everything empire does is evil” for this context. Personally I recommend getting a Kindle while in deep discount and then using it with your own books via Calibre because Amazon subsidises them and must be losing money on this kind of thing. Hardware’s not bad.
