Honestly? It’s still weird seeing Nebraska in the B1G. I started paying attention to cfb around the time of the SWC collapse & merger with the Big 8, so seeing them not in the same conference as Colorado or Okie is never going to not be weird.
I’ll never be used to it. It’s been 15 years. . My rivals I get worked up for are Colorado, Missouri and Oklahoma. Manhattan was a road trip I always took. Texas I just fucking hate.
For those who are 15 to 25. It’s probably all they can remember is being in the big 10
I used to love the idea of conference expansion. But now I realize what was lost.
. Oregon USC, UCLA , Washington at least have some natural rivalry in this new era.It’s just sad the big couldn’t get one of Nebraskas to join. My hope is someday the sec and big form their own am league and some regionality comes back
If I’m benevolent dictator for life over college football:
- conference memberships based on geographic compactness and length of rivalry, and tv ratings wouldn’t factor in
- 10 team conferences, conf play is 9 round robin games
- regular season is 9 conference round robin + 3 nonconf games, which can be at any point of season (except no 1-aa games right before rivalry week)
- one bye week during season, can’t be the week before rivalry week
- no rankings or polls may be conducted before six weeks of the season have elapsed
I think when conference championship games are going on the rest of the conference should be playing too finish out the standings.
Also college football playoff. If your team isn’t in it. Bowl games should automatically be against a old conference rival if possible. Ex Nebraska and Colo are bowl eligible and not in playoff they should play in a bowl vs each other
