          Minimal hand waving

Except for the alien tech. The proto virus or whatever it’s called. People talking from the dead. Teleporters to the other side of the universe. Crystals growing out of people’s heads. Alien bug swarms. And a whole bunch of other hand-wavey things.

Yeah, good point. And fuel density and accessibility.

I guess I just really like space physics without fake gravity, but instead being generated by thrust. And the realism of the time everything takes to travel.

Fuel’s easy, they have fusion reactors.

Now, how the fusion reactors work is a little more hand-wavy…but they are definitely proton-proton chain, not deuterium-tritium, so any old water will do, and the solar system has a lot of water.

In fact, the main cast were crew on a water hauler before shit kicked off

Yeah they really nailed the space combat. It’s exhilarating to watch. In Star Trek they don’t have any of those things going on because the ships are big and slow during combat, and because they have inertial dampers that cancel the inertial forces experienced by the crew using hand-wavey magic. Heh.

In 2364, when the USS Enterprise-D was unexpectedly thrust millions of light years into a realm where thoughts became reality, Kosinski described this explanation of the phenomenon as akin to being asked to believe in magic. Captain Jean-Luc Picard felt the explanation made sense, however, as only the power of thought could explain the strange events that were manifesting aboard the vessel, such as his own apparent meeting with his maman, Yvette Picard. (TNG: “Where No One Has Gone Before”)

There’s also a regular invocation of Clark’s Law, producing a rich surplus of “Space Wizards” - from TNG’s Q to Gabrielle Burnham, the Red Angel, in Discovery.

That’s before you get into hyperdrives and teleporters and replicators and holodecks and other very naked violations of established science. Functionally no different than characters casting spells and using magic items in a game of D&D.

Invoking Clark’s Law is saying “there’s no magic, just stuff we don’t understand yet”.

But yeah, no answer on Q’s species, that’s literally magic.

One preaches hope for a better future.

One preaches a never ending cycle of ambition, corruption, and cruelty.

Who would have ever thought time would prove Star Wars more thematically realistic 😂

Star Wars was based on the past but set in the future. They borrowed “stormtroopers” from Hitler. The space battles are just like WWII dogfights. Star Wars was never looking forward it was looking backwards.

With that logic, Star Trek is the same.

It is based upon submarine life. Even going as far as using the boatswain whistle and radar sounds at the controls.

I’d love to see Disney try out a sort of anthology of short seasons that all share thematic elements of WW2 that made the OT such a spectacle, but do like 4-8 episodes about a given person/squad/ship/squadron/station/agent/whatever…tell one good solid story about that subject then move on.

I’d love for one of those seasons to follow a light capital ship with 1-2 squadrons of fighters, and model it with elements of the carrier war in the Pacific mixed with a submarine movie theme.

Have them playing a deadly game of cat and mouse with a much larger ISD or Victory, both stuck in a nebula. They both get their hits in that cause grave damage, but both crews hang in there and stick to the mission.

How it ends is anyone’s guess, but I could absolutely see plenty of room in that framework for intense scenes of sensors crews glued to their stations, hoping to go unnoticed, or desperately searching for any sign of their foe…

One of my favorite fun facts: “Balance of Terror” was the original Star Trek episode to introduce Romulans, and the first to feature space combat against a near peer adversary.

The screenplay for that episode actually was for a submarine movie, and it got readapted.

          Enterprise

          Roci

I’ve ordered from both sites and they are trustworthy FWIW. If you’re not familiar with Chinese brick companies GoBricks are the gold standard, Jie Star are pretty good too IMO. Most of the brands don’t make their own bricks, anyone that uses GoBricks or Jie Star are typically okay in terms of brick quality.

If I’m honest in maybe 20-30 sets I’ve had one “poor” quality set of bricks and it was a £12 knock off of an X-Wing that I only bought because it was cheap, even then it was fine for the price.

Jizz was first mentioned in canon in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi junior novelization, authored by Ryder Windham and released in 2017.

The Return of the Jedi novelization introduced the term “jizz-wailer” to describe a musician, but the term “jizz” as the name of the musical style was not introduced until the publication of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, twelve years later.

The original RotJ novelization was released in 1983. Don’t discount Legends!

Etymology is not destiny, and in particular Jazz was established before the sexual meaning of the root was firmly (hehheh) established.

Nah, man, Lucas clearly just wasn’t familiar with the term and let it slide with the original ROTJ novelization, or the 1984 reference book, or wherever it was that it first popped up. Well, that, or they were just trolling us all along. 🤣
