I was a kid so fairly ignorant of wider issues, but I do miss the 90s where it felt like things would only ever get better…

Then I reached the 2000s and graduated highschool into the Iraq war and it’s only been downhill from there. :/

From the timeline you are describing you were not a kid 5 years ago. Maybe I am missing something

Not really Covid days yet, just the beginning and while very scary and chaotic, there was still some sense that the experts will step in and make things better.

      Anyway…

Or knew someone who died. Or had to work customer service as an “essential worker” in a blue city in a red state where customers treated you like shit for enforcing the mask mandate. Or had a family member that got brainwashed by the president into thinking they were literally going to have to shoot you in the upcoming Civil War. Or you had to isolate from your friends and family because your partner had a pre-existing condition. Otherwise, pretty good times.

The collective delusions have been there since 2015, not a COVID thing really. In 2020 there was hope that a lot of this would just pass and Biden won with a record number of votes. Can’t argue with the rest though, I’m sorry you had it rough.
